Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding

Primary PE and Sport Premium Funding

In March 2013 the Government announced that it would provide additional funding to primary schools to support the improvement of provision of PE and sport. The funding, allocated to headteachers in primary schools is ringfenced and can only be spent on PE and sport in primary schools. The headteacher and governors are accountable for the spending of the funding.

The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport. It is to benefit primary-aged pupils and to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

In our report, we must include:

  • The amount of Premium received
  • A full breakdown of how it has been spent
  • The impact the school has seen on pupils' PE, School Sport and Physical Activity, and sport participation and attainment
  • How the improvements will be sustainable in the future

Schools are also required to publish the percentage of pupils within their year 6 cohort in the 2018/19 academic year who met the national curriculum requirement to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

We were pleased that Ofsted (July 2019) could see:

"Leaders’ good use of the physical education (PE) and sports funding ensures that pupils have access to a wide range of sports and activities to help them develop healthy lifestyles. Pupils participate in competitions and work with coaches to develop their sports skills in activities as diverse as lacrosse, bowling and orienteering. Leaders are justifiably proud of the School Games gold award which the school holds as a result of its commitment to increasing pupils’ participation in competitions"

Playtimes

Shannon Crisp is our new Playleader!

We have employed Shannon Crisp to coordinate fine motor and gross motor activities available at lunchtimes!

She has appointed a wonderfully capable team of KS2 Playleaders who help her to set up and lead the play activities with the children!

Our lunchtimes are so much more exciting now, thank you Shannon!
