NEWS AND EVENTS

Dates and events going forward are to be finalised, but to give you a flavour of what to look forward to:

  • Summer Term - Ice Lolly Fridays will be held every week after school
  • FoSS will help run the Leavers BBQ for our Year 6 Leavers and their families

Everyone becomes a Friend of Shap School when your child joins the school. Please do come along to our meetings and get involved with FoSS and our fundraising activities. We have a planning meeting usually every half-term - new ideas for events and activities are always welcome! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for meeting details.

Recent events

Bake for the King - 16 May 2023

We were delighted to support the Bank for the King event, celebrating the Coronation of King Charles!

The afternoon began with a wonderful fanfare from Shap Band before the winners were then revealed for the baking competition, with prizes from FoSS awarded by Mrs Brown and Mrs Jackson. Mrs Jackson then presented the special Coronation mugs to all of our children, kindly donated by Shap Parish Council! We all stood to sing our National Anthem, accompanied by Terence our AMAZING flautist, and mum Katie on her flute!

The children then had the opportunity to play some of the games that our Helvellyn children had designed and made, while the grownups indulged in some of the terrific baking! Our Coronation teatowels were on sale, green-fingered Suzanne staffed our plant stall and Briony was kept very busy face painting our excited children! Throughout, Shap Band played along accompanied by Stephen on his marimba, which made the atmosphere feel very special for us all!

FoSS ran the refreshments and worked with the staff during set up and clear up. Well done to all the children for their baking efforts and their families for supporting the baking competition, and readying the children for the celebrations. Thanks also to our wonderful community for attending, including our judges, Mrs Brown and Mrs Jackson.

Our famous Big Breakfast returned - 11 March 2023
We were delighted to raise nearly £900 from our Big Breakfast! It was well supported by parents, grandparents and the wider community, with the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and a cuppa with friends and family. The activities included crafts and big toys in the year for children, a raffle and a tombola.

Thanks to Sam Wood, parent of Oscar, who donated the eggs, Lakes&Dales Coop who provided £100 of vouchers towards the food, and the Westmorland Group who provided 100 sausages from their farm shop! We had lots of raffle prizes donated from local businesses, and Teresa Martin, our school cook, baked an amazing Easter cake for the guess the weight of the cake . We're so grateful for everyone's support. Special thanks also to Mrs Chappell and the other teachers who helped us to set up and on the day, as well as the parents who helped with washing up and waitressing.

FoSS helped Santa to buy books for our children!

FoSS treated our Nursery children to a film morning in school, and our Reception - Year 6 children to an exclusive viewing of A boy called Christmas at The Alhambra in Penrith... Complete with an ice-lolly treat!
