Pupil Outcomes 2024–2025

At Shap CE Primary School, we are proud of the progress, resilience and achievements demonstrated by our pupils across all key stages. Our outcomes reflect the dedication of our staff, the determination of our children, and our strong commitment to personalised, inclusive teaching.

This year, we have continued to build firm foundations for future success, with many pupils making strong individual progress. Our focus on early identification, targeted support and high-quality teaching ensures that all children are supported to flourish.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

  • 83% of pupils achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD), an increase on last year and a strong indicator of school readiness.
  • Children leave EYFS with a secure foundation in learning behaviours, early literacy and numeracy.
  • Early identification ensures additional support is quickly put in place, particularly in:
    • Speech and language development
    • Early reading and oral language
    • Physical development (fine and gross motor skills)

This strong start reflects effective teaching and a nurturing environment where every child is known and supported.

Year 1 Phonics Screening Check

  • 78.6% of pupils met the expected standard, in line with national outcomes.
  • Pupils demonstrate growing confidence in decoding and early reading.
  • Targeted phonics support is in place to ensure all pupils continue to make strong progress into Year 2.

Key Stage 1 (Year 2)

  • Reading: 78.8% achieved the expected standard, with 33% working at Greater Depth
  • Maths: 66% achieved the expected standard, with some pupils demonstrating deeper understanding

Pupils are developing increasing confidence, fluency and stamina, particularly in reading comprehension and mathematical reasoning. Ongoing work on vocabulary development and retrieval practice is further strengthening learning across the curriculum.

Multiplication Tables Check (Year 4)

  • Pupils demonstrated strong recall of multiplication facts
  • 66% of pupils achieved full marks (25/25)

This reflects the impact of consistent practice, targeted support and effective teaching strategies.

Key Stage 2 (Year 6)

This cohort included a high proportion of pupils with additional needs, and all pupils were well supported to achieve their personal best.

  • Writing: 75% achieved the expected standard
  • Science: The majority of pupils met the expected standard (teacher assessed)
  • Reading, Maths and GPS: Pupils demonstrated secure knowledge and understanding, with several achieving results close to the expected standard

These outcomes reflect the progress pupils have made from their individual starting points. Many pupils were working just below the expected standard, showing they are well on track and close to reaching national expectations.

We are using detailed pupil-level analysis to further strengthen outcomes, with a focus on:

  • Vocabulary development
  • Building confidence and resilience
  • Applying knowledge effectively in different contexts

Looking Ahead

The progress made this year provides a strong platform for continued improvement. Our ongoing focus on high-quality teaching, early support and a rich, inclusive curriculum ensures that all pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Context for Performance Data

As a small school, our cohort sizes mean that outcomes can vary from year to year, with each individual pupil representing a significant proportion of the overall data. For this reason, we place strong emphasis on each child’s individual progress, development and achievement.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection (July 2024) recognises the strengths of our school, noting that:

“Pupils are happy and enjoy each day spent in this small, friendly and nurturing school… Most pupils, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), achieve well.”

Inspectors also highlighted that pupils:

“strive to live up to the high expectations that the school has for them academically”
and
“are proud of what they can do.”

This reflects our commitment to ensuring that all pupils are supported to succeed, both academically and personally, from their individual starting points.
