Over the past few months we have been in the process of designing and gaining funds for two developments within our school ground.
The First is a Potting Shed Development. This will involve developing the concrete area in front of the school, opposite the CDC door and Catbells classroom to include a potting shed with gardening equipment, and a couple of raised beds. This will allow the children to take part in gardening activities as part of our PSHE curriculum and science curriculums.
The second project is the next phase of developing the Kidsty Pike Outdoor Area. If you recall we added a canopy and wet pour area to the outdoor area to allow the area to be utilised all year round? Now, we are going to restructure the garden area to allow for a ‘summer house’ to be added, that will allow the children to continue their learning outside.
We are delighted to have been awarded many grants to allow these developments to happen. Jill Bawden and FoSS have secured:
Over the upcoming months, we are going to be asking our Shap School Families if you are able to help with the projects. Our first request for support is with the Potting Shed Project.
CAN YOU HELP?
We are looking for some volunteers to help us to build 2 large raised beds out of railway sleepers. We will be able to give you precise information regarding size and structure, but to summarise, it would involve sawing and constructing the 2 raised beds, (4 sleepers high) and fitting the liner into the beds, ready to fill with aggregate, top soil, compost and bark.
If you think you have the time and energy, and the tools for the job (saw, screwdriver, hammer etc.) please get in touch, and we will arrange a time that will be mutually convenient. All help would be greatly appreciated! Please feel free to share this with anyone who may be able to help!
If you have any questions, please do get in touch!
