Autumn 2020: Picturing the Westmorland Dales - Watch this film showing children in The Westmorland Dales working with Land Artists Stomping Ground
Picturing the Westmorland DalesIn the autumn of 2020, children in the Westmorland Dales worked together to explore the landscape through land art. We worked alongside Orton C of E School, Crosby Ravensworth C of E School, Asby Endowed School, Tebay Primary and Kirkby Stephen Primary School. The activity was created and funded by the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme with the goal to help to connect children with the natural world, encouraging them to look closely at materials such as sticks, pine cones, stones, soils, leaves, grass and wool. A film has been created (by Mr. Chappell!) to showcase their work and bring the amazing creations of these schools together in what has been a unifying and joyous project in celebration of the Westmorland Dales. Workshops were facilitated by Kate Lynch from ‘We are Team’ and land artists ‘Stomping Ground’. Children created collages used natural materials, using them like a paint brush, creating beautiful art pieces. During these sessions children began first by creating individual art pieces, helping to develop their skills and fire their imagination; the project culminating in a final group piece.
