Soaring Together in Blencathra Class

Blencathra Class have been exploring our Shap CE School vision and thinking about what helps us to grow, flourish and soar together. Using a tree as our inspiration, we explored how its roots, trunk, branches and leaves can represent our school community and the important part each person plays.

We worked together to create a mixed-media communi-tree, with each child making a leaf using wax resist and watercolour and adding words to show what they will bring to our class community. Our finished tree reminds us that everyone has a part to play.

We also enjoyed the story book On Sudden Hill, exploring friendship, imagination and teamwork. Working in groups, the children used boxes to create something everyone could enjoy. They shared ideas, listened to one another and worked together to bring their creations to life.

These activities helped us develop our understanding of community, cooperation, creativity and valuing one another—all important parts of growing and soaring together.
