Christmas Tree Making
As part of our Christmas Week craft activities, we made Christmas trees from tree branches. Gary who we work with during Outdoor Learning, completed these with us, along with Ted's Grandad (Geoff) and Oktavian's Mum (Stacey). Unfortunately, we had a really heavy frost and the temperatures were well below 0 so we had to complete our work indoors.
To make the Christmas trees, we had to measure the length of each branch accurately, this consolidated our Maths learning on length. We then used the saws to accurately cut each branch. Once we had cut each branch we had to use our halving knowledge to find half of each length so we could use a drill to drill a hole. After we had drilled the holes, we had the thread the branches on to the vertical dowel, going from the longest length to the shortest.
The children were all very proud of their final pieces and now have a Christmas decoration that will come out, year after year. It was brilliant to hear that once they had taken their trees home, some children had decorated them with fairy lights, baubles and candy canes.
