Cave Paintings
To link with our Stone Age topic, we studied the art of cave paintings.
We looked at the Lion man sculpture which is believed to be made from mammoths tusks and was created over 30 000 years ago. We then used clay to create our own lion man sculptures.
After this, we looked at colour mixing and how we can use primary colours to mix different shades of brown. We also used black, white and grey to explore tint, shade and tone.
We understood that during the Stone Age, they would not have used paint brushes so we went outside to collect natural materials that could be used to paint with. We then used the sticks, leaves and moss to explore pattern.
Finally we made stencils and used these to create shapes.
