At Shap we run our history and geography units on a 2-year cycle.

In EYFS, history and geography is covered through the specific area of 'Understanding the World'. Our EYFS team have planned elements of 'Understanding the World' in each half term in order to enable our children to reach the Early Learning Goal and develop their skills ready for KS1. In KS1 and KS2, we interleave our geography and history units throughout the term, allowing us to cover a greater depth and breadth in both subjects. 

These units of work have been carefully planned and organised so that the children's learning experiences in geography and history can be linked and will allow them to develop secure schemas (patterns of repeated behaviour which allow children to explore and express developing ideas and thoughts through their learning and exploration).
